About Us

Origin

Derry Downs was founded in 1972 as a Blue point only, Siamese cattery. The cattery was
named after our first Siamese Ch. Dhyana's Derry.

In 1977 a trip to a North Dakota, ACFA show, resulted in our first colored, Turkish Angora, AMY,
and out introduction to Oriental Shorthairs.
In the spring of 1978 Petmark Impressa, a chestnut Oriental SH arrived. While she was never
shown extensively, she did distinguish herself with an AB Best kitten win, and ultimately was
the mother of our first CFA GRAND CHAMPION, Ingenue.

In 1990 we agreed to help launch the Oriental longhair. Our original thought was to breed a
litter or two and move on... didn't happen, 17 years later and we're still working to develop the
breed.
Our pursuit of the perfect OLH led to our acquisition of our first Javanese, Ch Freelees Larkspurr
and their purrsonality have kept them here ever since.
